August has definitely been one of the busiest months so far for Fur Your Convenience. Full of some lovely returns to some of my most favourite cats and dogs as well as some newbies who have definitely worked their way into my heart too! Read on to find out more!

Lily and Boo...

August started with two gorgeous Labrador rescue dogs called Lily And Boo. Boo suffered from separation anxiety and is quite a big and loud dog that takes time to build and develop trust with other people. Prior to my two weeks day at the start of August we arranged multiple meet ups and a walk together to make sure Boo was certain that she was happy with me staying in the home whilst her owners went travelling. Lily was not bothered in the slightest that her owners weren’t around whereas Boo took a day or 2 to adjust to the new situation. I kept to their normal routine as close as possible to try and make the transition easier for them and it seemed to pay off because Boo spent most of her time fast asleep and snoring on the sofa.

Lulu...

August also allowed me to meet and drop in on the absolutely stunning Lulu the cat for a week whilst her owners attended a folk festival. Lulu is such a playful old girl and you definitely wouldn’t imagine she’s 13 years old. Her owners had the most amazing garden filled with so many wonderful fruits and vegetables that they also needed watering and asked me to regularly pick some of these plants to ensure they stay healthy as well. Not only did I help their gardening but I also managed to sneak a few sweet treats myself!

Smudge...

During August I also returned to my favourite elderly girl Smudge she is nearly 23 years old and after a successful dropping in week in June her owner asked me back again for a weekend away in August. She’s still just as sprightly as ever and once again loved the chance to go out in her garden during the day but have the security of being indoors over night.

Diesel, Eric, Tilly and Charlie...

Another fantastic return to my pet sitting schedule was Diesel, Eric, Tilly and Charlie. These fabulous four are absolutely gorgeous, so well behaved and so fun to watch. Eric still does a lovely little happy dance when he comes out of his crate to find the perfect toy to carry around and push into my leg. Charlie is still absolutely obsessed with Diesel and his ears and stealing his toys as well. Tilly and Eric still play absolutely beautifully and I can’t wait to see them again soon.

Marcel...

Although August was a month of a lot of returning customers, I did get to add a lovely new cat onto my schedule called Marcel. Marcel has only recently moved to the area and his owner already had some trips away planned before their children went back to school. Marcel has recently been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism so needed two drop ins a day to ensure he got his thyroid medication. This is something that I happily offered to do and have a lot of experience in as well. Marcel was such a beautiful boy and so well behaved and took his medication perfectly. I hope to see more of Marcel in the future and they also have a little dog called Winnie that might end up needing my services too (fingers crossed!).

Bonnie, Lulu, Margaux, Florence and Maple...

Everyone’s favourite five Bonnie, Lulu, Margaux, Florence and Maple also needed my pet sitting services in August for just over two weeks whilst their owners travelled the beautiful island of Corfu.  No dead animals this time and no hedgehog rescue missions either! Maple is definitely starting to calm down now and grow out of her adolescent ways but they really enjoyed some chews and toys that I bought for them to keep them calm and busy as well. We went on a walk most days in the morning (the heat didn’t help!) and if we missed our morning walk we went in the afternoon instead when it was much cooler and they were pretty well behaved on these as well. It definitely helped to tire them out and keep them calm for the rest of the day! As always I really look forward to seeing them again soon!

Bertie and Jasper...

I also saw the return of my lovely old boys Bertie and Jasper. Bertie and Jasper are two Labrador x Collie’s that are getting on a little bit now and do struggle mobility wise. For this reason we decided back in June, during their first drop in sessions with me, that they wouldn’t be suitable for kennels and they also love the comfort of their own home. Bertie and Jasper required four drop ins a day to make sure they got their two meals a day, ample time to go to the toilet and also got moving to stop their joints from getting too stiff! Both of them are starting to go a little bit blind and deaf but we managed to cope with this quite well with a lot of cuddles in the garden and not quite so much playtime.

Jackson and Tink...

Jackson and Tink also needed some drop in sessions again due to their owners going away on a lovely little cruise. Similarly, Jackson's mobility is starting to hinder him now however he still enjoyed going on his walk every day and barking and talking to the entire neighbourhood every time he saw a person or a dog. He’s such a friendly little boy and a very very vocal one! He’s going deaf unfortunately and he can’t hear himself but we can definitely hear him!

Betty, Marshmallow and Guinness...

A couple of newbies I had the absolute pleasure of dropping in on were the gorgeous Betty, who is an indoor-outdoor cat so I didn’t see her every day but she graced me with her presence a few times, and she also has two little gerbil friends called Marshmallow and Guinness who are absolutely beautiful and took food right out of my hand. I loved spending time with these two as I haven’t had any gerbils in my care since ones I owned myself as a small child so it’s nice to have these lovely little pets back in my life again. They were so fun to watch moving around their little playground and seeing them bury their treats and hide them for later was one of the sweetest things!

Bear...

My final pet sitting adventure was with Bear who is an Old Tyme Bulldog and a very close friend of mine owns him. I’ve known Bear now for about four years and he has got some funny little quirks and he’s not the cleanest of dogs! I was constantly covered in dog slobber, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Bear is such a beautiful boy and so well behaved and we enjoyed our little cuddles together every day whilst his owners went away with another group of close friends of ours for city break in Sweden, they’re definitely going to need another holiday now to recover!

Ollie and Diego...

Along with Bear, I also dropped in on Ollie and Diego - two of the friendliest cats I have ever met. These two beautiful boys are owned by the other group of friends that went away with Bear’s owners! They were so happy to receive loads of fuss each morning that I went in and held me to ransom on a couple of occasions by stealing my car keys

Nova the Robo-dog...

In my personal life, Nova has been given the ‘all clear’ now from her first total hip replacement surgery that she had back in June. She had her x-rays during the third week of August and the surgeon was so impressed with how well the implant has been working and the bone has grown really well around it that she is now able to resume her normal activities and she’s definitely taken liberties with that! She’s been running around like crazy, chasing the pigeons and trains again but it’s so nice to see her happy, bouncy and have cuddles on the sofa again! Fingers crossed her second goes just as smoothly next year!

Shadow...

Our little old man had a few tumbles this month and started limping quite a lot on his front leg. With a bit of rest and some painkillers it did start to ease but we decided with his age to have a full MOT work up as well just to know where we stand with him. We are so happy to report that his blood tests were absolutely perfect and for most of his results he was bang in the middle of the range which is unheard of for an elderly dog and just shows just how healthy he is. His urine analysis came back completely clear and although his x-ray showed signs of arthritis this was nothing that we weren’t expecting. He also had a few samples taken from some masses and lumps that we found around his body and these came back clear too so we know that Shadow has definitely got plenty more life left in him and is just a stiff old man!

Hallie...

Finally, our gorgeous little Hallie passed her puppy class not long after her brother Ollie passed his. Look at my second little superstar with her rosette and certificate! We hope there will be many more where they came from as Laura from Pawsitive Intentions is fully committed to making Hallie her next superstar Hooper‘s dog!

As you can see August was pretty manic and similar to July, brought lots of previous friends back but also introduced a lot of new ones too. I can’t wait for what looks like a slightly calmer September at the moment but who knows what’s in store?!
